Quinoa is perfect for salads as it's a whole grain packed with fiber, protein, and vitamins. It cooks quickly, can be made in volume, and takes on all the flavors you add to it. Each cup of cooked quinoa has 8 grams of protein and 5 grams of dietary fiber. It's naturally gluten free, making it an ideal option for those with celiac or gluten intolerance.
This quinoa salad is easy to prepare, and offers bright acidity and umami with citrus, olives, and olive oil. For additional protein, you can top with grilled chicken, salmon, or shrimp.

Training will not only help you enjoy your time on the trails more, but it will allow you to focus on fun and enjoying the beauty of nature. Instead of being tired and miserable throughout your hike, you won’t overexert yourself and will savor your time outdoors. Preparing your body for a long journey can help you carry more things, and you won’t need as much time to recover after the trip.
In addition to avoiding overexertion, you’ll also avoid many injuries, muscle fatigue, and blisters that come with training. Becoming more flexible and building strength can help you stay flexible on your hike and toughen up your skin while breaking in your footwear.
The first step in your training is to figure out why you want to do this in the first place. Be specific about the goals you want to achieve. This could be how many miles you want to hike daily and how much weight you want to carry in your backpack. These will help you grasp what you’re working toward and make training easier.
Once you know what you’re working toward, it’s important to start moving. Try to get up and get your blood flowing for at least 30 minutes daily. This could be through vigorous spring cleaning or a walk around your neighborhood. Find something enjoyable and easily accessible when you’re first starting out. This will start working out your heart and lung muscles which will do most of the heavy lifting on your hike. As you increase your activity, incorporate some of the gear that you'll have on you during your excursion. You will want to make sure your clothes, packs, shoes, socks, and undergarments like a great sports bra are all up-to-snuff before heading out. This will give you enough time to acclimate to the gear, and to make changes before you get to the big excursion.
Start walking as soon as you know when your hike or backpacking trip will be. Start with a few easy walks each week, then work up to more intense ones. You can even do longer hikes on the weekend to prepare for your big hike or backpacking trip. Start logging data from your practice, such as your time, how many miles you could go, and how you feel after each one.
The amount of time will vary for each person, and also how strenuous your planned activity is. Depending on your expertise, training for longer hiking adventures could take at least 2-3 months of walking, preparing, and getting in shape. Give yourself time to move and to get your body used to the high level of activity.
Strength training for backpacking is a great way to help your body get in shape as well. Moving your body, lifting light weights, and walking on different types of terrain (safely) can all be a big help!
For most of us, hiking is an ideal pastime to take in nature’s landscapes. Whether you’re a veteran or a new hiker, training is an essential part of your hiking preparation. This will help you be more prepared and ready to enjoy hikes in some of the most challenging and beautiful places.
If you need a supportive sports bra for your hike, the ENELL LITE is a low-to-medium impact bra that is ultra-comfortable, has no wires, and closes in the front. For extra support, there are also the medium impact racerback bra - ENELL RACER - and the ENELL SPORT - the highest impact sports bra on the market.

CfR’s retreats offer opportunities for women to find inspiration, discover renewed energy for life, and experience healing connections with other women and nature. The retreats are open to women with breast cancer of all ages, in all stages of treatment and recovery. For over 20 years, women from all walks of life have benefitted from CfR’s inspiring program model. They’ve served 10,000+ women but there is still more work to do, and we're happy to support their mission.
CfR provides free fly fishing retreats to women with breast cancer, offering 57 retreats across the country, serving over 700 women each year. For women who have had surgery or radiation as part of their breast cancer treatment, the gentle motion of fly casting can be good physical therapy for increasing mobility in the arm and upper body.
Here's a note we received from a CfR participant about the impact the retreat had on her:
"Thank you for your sponsorship which allowed me to participate in the September 11-13 Casting for Recovery at the Skytop Lodge, Skytop Pennsylvania. Hearing the stories of 13 other women and their breast cancer journey was inspiring beyond words. They are moms, sisters, grandmothers, aunts, daughters, best friends and wives. We all share the bond of breast cancer. The strength, kindness, courage, compassion and the positive words from everyone will always remain with me.
All the facilitators for the program were fabulous and need to be commended. Wendy from Casting for Recovery shares calmness and kindness with all. Each river guide showed tremendous compassion and patience.
This diagnosis is always on your mind, but it was really great to put it aside and enjoy the peaceful surroundings and fly fishing. It was an amazing experience!
I am tremendously grateful for your sponsorship and intend to fly fish again in the spring with my brother."

This overnight blueberry chia pudding recipe will serve 4. We love adding granola on top as a garnish for crunch, but if you're grain-free or sugar-free, you could add chopped nuts of your choice. The texture will add a nice contrast to the soft pudding.

Per 3.5 ounces of Brussels sprouts, you get 3.8 grams of dietary fiber, which should make your digestive system super happy. They also have more vitamin C than an orange, and are high in vitamins A and K. So let's work on making them a little more appealing.
The keys to preparing Brussels sprouts your family will actually eat are similar to other vegetables:
Need some sprout inspiration? Here are five easy and delicious ways to re-introduce yourself to the wonders of Brussels sprouts:
In a time where we focus on antibiotics for illness, anti-bacterial for defense, and everything seems to have an expiration date; the thought of leaving foods or drinks to ferment is quite a stretch. Most of us unknowingly consume fermented items regularly, such as yogurt, pickles, beer, sourdough bread, and (perhaps less commonly) sauerkraut.
For all of the bad bacteria we remove from our bodies, fermenting experts are pointing to the good bacteria needed to maintain healthy gut function. These good bacteria help us break down our food and absorb more nutrients. Sandor Katz, author of The Art of Fermentation, explains “By eating a variety of live fermented foods, you promote diversity among microbial cultures in your body. Biodiversity, increasingly recognized as critical to the survival of larger-scale ecosystems, is just as important at the micro level. Call it microbiodiversity.”
Talk of the need for good bacteria in the gut has meant an increase in supplement companies selling probiotics, more people drinking kombucha, and wider adoption of kefir and yogurt as live bacteria superheroes. Seeing as evidence of fermentation can be found in several ancient civilizations including Ancient Egypt, Babylon, Mexico and the Sudan, there are more economical, yet still practical, ways to ferment your own food without purchasing it from a health food store.
Are you a kitchen adventurer ready to try your hand at fermenting? Here are some recipes to get you started:

Don't take it from us - here are some reviews we've received from customers who have worn our bras post-operatively:
"I wanted to take a moment and share some positive feedback about your bras. I have purchased 3 in the past 2 weeks! I was recently diagnosed with breast cancer. This was devastating for me. I am a nurse and a hospital administrator who has always taken care of my health... I am a 34D so I wanted a great bra post operative. Well I found a great bra for life! I had to have surgery on both breasts 4 days ago. All is well and they are nice and snug in my new bras! Lol.
PS – I had just purchased 3D technology for my hospital in January 2013. This cancer was not visible on regular 2D digital imaging. I am taking every opportunity to educate and promote 3D for women with dense breast tissue!"
- Debra F.
"Several years ago I started to fitness walk, and as a well endowed woman, I visited a specialty bra store that fit me to Enell and I fell in love. Finally I had the full support I needed and nothing poking out the sides because I was trying to squeeze into something that wasn't the right cup size. I purchased more Enell Sports bras as I continued to walk. My Enells and I have finished several half marathons and are attempting a full in Hawaii in December.
Yesterday I had surgery on both breasts to remove ducts that were causing cancer concerns. My surgeon told me that I needed to have a tight fitting sports bra when I got home to recover in (for the next two weeks). The Enell is perfect with its support and front closures. The tight fit has helped in my recovery and keeping my discomfort down. I was so glad I had them at home waiting for me!
I just wanted to say thank you for your quality product - it's helped me through 13.1 miles of fitness walking and surgery recovery. I'd recommend it to anyone!"
- Danielle
"I am 69 years old and recently had surgery for one encapsulated breast implant and one deflated. Because I am very active and still ride horses and work out, and because this was my third set of implants across 40 years, I wanted to make sure to do all I could to protect my breasts. I've purchased several different bras and I can say without a doubt my Enell bra gives far superior support. It is the only bra I would wear when riding."
- Eileen
"Purchased this bra to use after my breast reduction surgery. This bra is AWESOME! Given that I am required to in a bra 24hrs a today for the next two months, this bra is comfortable, gives maximum support, but most important NO JIGGLE! Completely satisfied with my purchase."
- Maria L
"I've just had breast surgery and this bra is helping to support my breasts. I would recommend this bra for all sports as well as post-surgery."
- Margie

"While wearing this bra, I can give my all to any movement—cartwheels, jumping jacks, sprints, you name it—and not stop to think about boob placement once. I never thought the feeling of freedom would arrive in sports bra form, but the support this one gives me makes me feel even more capable of meeting my fitness goals."

]]>It’s time to take a step back from the hustle culture we’re all used to and indulge in some serious self-care. There’s (probably) no other time in our lives where we’ll be praised for staying at home and sitting on our couch. Let’s take advantage of this crazy situation we’re all in together.
Limit Screen Time
Collectively, our average screen time is on the rise and it’s having negative effects. To prevent ourselves from being sucked into the digital void over and over again, try turning off app notifications so you won’t be tempted to check your phone so often. You may also give yourself a cut-off time for social media so you can let your brain wind down to get better sleep.
Write Down What You’re Grateful For
An oldie but a goodie, especially in these times we’re in. Even though there is a lot of bad news right now, there is also a lot of good. Take five minutes a day to reflect on and share gratitude for the goodness in your life and write it down. By doing this, you’ll be able to feel positive emotions, relish in your good experiences, and build stronger relationships (via FaceTime for now.)
Declutter
Decluttering your space can turn your one-bedroom or three-story abode into a sanctuary. Channel your inner Marie Kondo and head to your closet storage room, and even under the bed. Clearing out your space can subsequently free up your mind and bring you clarity on the more important things in your life.
Get Lost in a Book
It’s a good time to escape reality and get lost in a book. Make it a daily habit to get offline and have some quiet time with one of these reads to feel damn good about yourself. If you can’t leave home, let a book take you somewhere instead of collecting dust on the shelf.
Put on your Favorite Playlist
Dance party for one, anyone? Turning on your favorite tunes can help alleviate stress and boost your mood. Make a new playlist with all the songs that make you feel good vibes only. Or get a good laugh from this coronavirus-inspired Spotify playlist. Bonus points if you dance it out in your living room and get that heart rate up!
Learn Something New
No one needs to use this time to do anything productive. We’re all emotionally maxed out as it is. But if you’re up for learning something new, nothing is stopping you. Always wanted to learn a new language? Look into Rosetta Stone’s free 3-day trial. Have a song on guitar you’ve been meaning to learn? There are plenty of free sources of YouTube. Need career advice? Ladies Get Paid has a library of webinars that can help you kickstart your career and revamp your finances.
Meditate
You may be thinking… “I’m spending enough time alone in silence!” But we promise, meditation is more than that. Meditation helps reduce stress, enhance self-awareness and promotes emotional health. The top-rated app, Headspace, is offering free meditations right now that deal with stress and anxiety related to the pandemic.
Cook at Home
We want to support local restaurants during this time by ordering take-out and delivery when we can. But that’s not possible every night. Cooking at home contributes to a healthier diet, saves money, and gives you a sense of satisfaction when it’s all said and done. Make a Pinterest board with recipes you want to try or explore some of our favorites:
Take a Nap Without an Alarm
Now is the time to let go of that hustle mentality and realize it’s okay to not always be productive. We aren’t robots! Take advantage of this freed up time by taking a nap– and don’t set your alarm. You deserve the extra ZZZs.
Listen to Podcasts
There’s a podcast about every subject imaginable. Pick a topic you’ve been wanting to know more about and dive in. Whether it’s a true crime story, career advice, or celebrity interviews, you’re bound to find something distracting to listen to.
]]>If you feel motivated to move your body after you’ve had your fill of binge-watching on the couch, head into your living room (wearing your favorite Enell sport bra, of course) and give these workouts a try.
Yoga in your Living Room
There's no reason you can't get into warrior pose while all the yoga studios are closed. (I know, we're super bummed about it, too.) Fortunately, apps like Yoga Studio by Gaiam and YouTube channels like Yoga with Adriene make it possible to get the exact style and intensity yoga class you want while on lockdown.
HIIT at Home
Get all of the endorphins you do from your HIIT class in the comfort of your own home. Cult-favorite app Sweat features different virtual trainers like Kayla Itsines, who help you get fit through short and effective workouts. If you’re looking for free videos, look no further than MadFit on YouTube who has several HIIT workouts you can do with no equipment.
Getting Strong Without Going Out
Lift weights without needing a lift to the gym. If you’ve got a free half hour at home, spend it with personal trainer and Instagram influencer Anna Victoria. She offers different weight training programs for different levels on FitBody App. There are also plenty of printable strength training workouts available on Pinterest that target your arms, legs, booty, and more. Why not try them all?
Dance Out your Energy
Getting stir crazy at home? Go ahead and dance it out. Fun workouts are a-plenty on PopSugar’s YouTube channel where you can participate in Bollywood, hip-hop, or Latin dance classes without anyone watching. That’s a win if you ask us.
]]>We can only hope the hoarding of antibacterial products is the dawn of a cleaner day for all of us. The states of emergency around coronavirus (more officially known as CoVid19) have prompted more vigilant hand washing and awareness around shared public germs.
This is a friendly reminder that, for your health and that of everyone around (especially compromised individuals), Corona or not, keep scrubbing!
Here are a handful of sanitary habits you should have already been practicing.
Girl, Wash Your D!mn Hands.
Stop Touching Your Face
We put our grimy hands on our faces about 23 times an hour. CDC advises against touching your eyes, nose, or mouth with unclean hands (duh!). You’re just self-inoculating with the latest funky virus and germs. We know it’s hard, but you’ve gotta make a conscious effort to try.
Cover Your Cough
Why were we ever taught to cough into our bare hands? We almost immediately take that yuck and type on our keyboards, hold our phones, rub our eyes, or (tragically) shake hands. Use a tissue and catch the particle debris, immediately throw it away (and wash your hands). If you can’t grab a tissue in time, direct your nose to your upper sleeve / in the corner of your sleeved elbow. It’s better for all of us this way.
Keep Your Sick at Home!
If you’ve got cooties, park your booty at home. Even when it’s not coronavirus pandemic season, no one wants your bronchitis, flu, cold, or other gnarly germs. Remote work is one of the greatest developments of these modern times. Put on some cozy clothes and login to the wifi from your couch. This goes for kids at school, going to concerts, restaurants, grocery stores, or anywhere else that’s outside of your home where you’ll make contact with even one other human.
Disinfect After Yourself
Do not leave the gym until you’ve scrubbed down your weights, treadmill, rowing machine, or any other equipment your skin touched. In fact, do yourself a favor and wipe down before you even start. Super uncool to leave your sweat and other ick on shared equipment.
The company behind apps like 7 Minute Workout and Down Dog Yoga, announced they’d make their popular suite of fitness apps free until April 1, so people who can’t get to the gym can still stay active.
As with most things, priming your body to be an immunity building machine will go a long way toward protecting you from seasonal illnesses and first-of-its-kind pandemics. Get plenty of quality of sleep, drink a lot more water than alcohol, eat clean, nutritious foods...and wash your d!mn hands!
